Heatwave

“Water is the driving force of all nature.” - Leonardo Da Vinci

Heatwave & Water.

Some one said to me while I was in India in January 2016,  ‘you can do anything if you have water’.

How true is this statement, I will always remember it.

That is the topic of conversation in Perth, Western Australia my home town known for being the world’s most isolated city. We are experiencing an incredible heat with temperatures as high as 42 degrees Celsius last Saturday. While the heat is intense it’s best to keep your house closed up to keep the heat out. During this time the sunsets are amazing with beautiful pink skies on dusk. You know it’s summer when you hear the sprinklers on, it’s such an iconic sound along with the crickets and frogs!

While on the other side of the world in the Northern Hemisphere naturally it’s quite the opposite with plenty of snow.

People go to the beach at all times of the day here even when it’s 40 degrees, silly! It is safer and more pleasant to go early in the morning or late in the evening on sunset.  Otherwise it's just too hot, risk of sunburn if you take the necessary precautions and you burn your feet on the hot sand!  We have beautiful white sand in Perth.

One lovely thing that I enjoy doing is hand watering my garden. It’s a really quiet peaceful activity to do. People walk by and you wave, the birds fly around it’s kind of grounding. Water is so precious for us in Perth.

We have two desalination plants which supply drinking water supply and another planned. If you’re interested please have a read here at the Water Corporation for the correct information regarding our water supply.

We are expecting to be in the high 30’s for this whole week so again my aircon is on, however, the seabreeze will come in for relief.   I like to exercise in the pool swimming my laps, however, it’s super crowded while the school holidays are on. Only one more week and all the children will be back starting their new year.

Last year I was working in Pre Primary and I will be thinking of all those little ones starting Year 1 in a week or so. They will have their own desk with their own space.  How precious!  Ooo I know they will be just fine and ready to learn.  All the children need to take water bottles to school and keep them on their desk, it’s vital they keep hydrated for their little bodies.  Here’s to a great week for all.

Take great care!

My warmest regards, Madge

PS The photo of the roses I took while attending the Open Day at Government House in Perth, Western Australia.  The gardens were absolutely stunning, SO many beautiful blooms in flower.
